Social Marketing 102

How to be Interesting Without Getting Overwhelmed

Saturday, July 30, 11am–1:30pm
The Lab at Museum of Contemporary Craft
724 NW Davis St

Instructor: Diane Gilleland (aka Sister Diane)

Class Size: 40

You may have heard that in order to market your business, you need a blog, a Twitter account, and a Facebook page. But what are you actually supposed to DO with all these marketing outlets, and how in the world do you find the time to keep up with them all?

In this workshop, we'll examine blogging, Twitter, and Facebook as storytelling tools. We'll boil your business down to its story elements, and then translate that story into interesting posts that bring you attention. We'll also look at some helpful strategies for getting plenty of social marketing done without being on your computer all the time.

Diane is deeply interested in the point where creative work, the internet, and small businesses intersect. Her blog, CraftyPod.com, began in 2005 on a whim and has since grown an international following of over 50,000 visitors monthly. She also produces audio and video podcasts, publishes ebooks, and teaches online classes—all designed to help creative people use the web more effectively to pursue their business dreams.

What You Get

Each workshop lasts two and a half hours, with a 30 minute break in the middle for eating and mingling. Coffee and a light lunch will be provided. Our decision to charge a small fee for workshops was not taken lightly. We still feel very strongly that our programs should be accessible to everyone and are working hard to ensure that barriers to entry are minimal.

About our Professional Development Workshops

Some of the hardest things for creative people to develop are the business skills needed to market and sell their creations successfully. Our Saturday morning workshops cover a wide range of topics to benefit creative minds, with local experts as instructors and virtually no barrier to entry. Learn how to photograph your work, find out the best uses for social media, adopt basic financial practices and much more. With intimate learning environments, heavy Q&A sessions and handouts, you can apply topics to your personal needs.
